Job Description – Trauma Therapist (Independent Practice)
As a trauma therapist in an independent practice, you support clients who are struggling with the aftermath of impactful or shocking experiences. You provide specialized help in processing trauma, ranging from single events (such as an accident) to complex and developmental trauma (such as prolonged abuse or mistreatment).
You work independently, which means you are not only responsible for the therapeutic guidance but also for managing your practice, client administration, and possible collaboration with referrers or other healthcare professionals.
Tasks and Responsibilities
- Conducting intake interviews and creating customized treatment plans.
- Guiding clients using proven trauma therapeutic methods such as EMDR, EFT, Systemic Work, TRE and other body-oriented therapies, cognitive behavioral therapy, or other specialized techniques.
- Monitoring progress and adjusting the treatment plan if necessary.
- Creating a safe, empathetic, and non-judgmental environment where clients can process their experiences.
- Documenting sessions and ensuring accurate record-keeping in accordance with applicable guidelines.
- Staying up to date with new developments in trauma therapy and continuing education.
- Maintaining a professional network and potentially collaborating with general practitioners, psychologists, or other referrers.
- Independently managing practice operations, such as scheduling, invoicing, and marketing (if applicable).
Profile
- Completed training as a (registered) therapist, psychologist, or a comparable relevant education, with a specialization in trauma therapy.
- Experience in treating trauma, PTSD, and/or complex issues.
- Knowledge of and experience with trauma treatment methods such as EMDR, somatic therapies, or other evidence-based techniques.
- Strong empathetic and communication skills.
- Independent, reliable, and professional in conduct.
- Registered with a recognized professional association (e.g., NVPA, NAP, SKJ, or equivalent).
- In possession of an AGB code (if applicable) and own practice space.
